A huge thank you to all the bakers who made our Macmillan Coffee Morning such a success. We raised £1000 for such an important cause. This was our first big house event of the year so it was lovely to see students across the years celebrating their houses and getting creative with their decorating. We even had a DNA themed cake baked in honour of Rosalind Franklin. The Year 11 House captains worked tirelessly

throughout the day, organising and selling the donated bakes, as well as having the glamorous job of cleaning up at the end of the day. This has been an extremely busy week for trips at Waldegrave so we were pleased that Storm Agnes has passed us by. Our final Year 7 trip to Thames Young Mariners took place yesterday. It has been lovely hearing from the students about their day of adventures on the river making new friends and courageously trying new things. Our Year 11 students completed their practice expeditions for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh in the Ashdown Forest last weekend and are looking forward to the assessed expeditions next weekend. On Wednesday our Year 10 Art students were inspired by their visit to Kew Gardens and really enjoyed the opportunity to draw and sketch. I am really looking forward to seeing how their sketchbooks develop over the term. Finally, our Year 13 Geographers have enjoyed a fabulous field trip to Barcelona gathering data for their coursework. On Thursday afternoon we were incredibly grateful to Jim McKeown, one of our parents, who gave a talk to Design Technology students in Years 9 and 10 about his career as a set designer for film and television. The students were fascinated learning about the creativity and understanding of materials to produce a prop suitable for a range of requirements, for example Captain America’s shield, from anodised aluminium for close ups to rubber for fights. Thank you to all our families who have donated uniform to school ready for the sale taking place this Saturday between 10.00am and 11.30am.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Last week it was Youth Mental Health Day and The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust launched their new resources on mental health and wellbeing for teachers, parents and carers. Their recent research found that the five key themes that young people wanted support with most were: Managing change and uncertainty; feeling lonely, isolated or disconnected; feeling bored, flat or unmotivated; feeling anxious about social situations; and getting help or support for mental health. The pack of resources can be found here and you can follow the links to the useful videos on encouraging young people to seek help and managing change and uncertainty.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11 This week the DofE students returned to school after their training & practice expedition, well done to all those involved and thanks to the staff for accompanying them. Our Silver DofE students will be heading off to the New Forest on their assessed expedition next Friday, we hope the weather is kind to them! I would like to say thank you to the Year 11 prefects who have been helping with the Open Morning tours taking place this week and next. They have been wonderful ambassadors for the school and have really helped our Year 8 tour guides. Congratulations to 11SAS &11PON who both top the tutor group epraise leaderboard so far this term with 150 points. 11ESU are in third place with 121 points. Well done to the Franklin and Seacole House Captains who have now launched the House System in their first assemblies of the year. BOOK OF THE MONTH
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This book is written from the perspective of Charlie through letter entries, following him and his friends through their challenging navigation through high school and life. It’s a moving and honest story.

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed towards our Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser, whether that was by bringing in homemade goodies to sell or purchasing some cakes on the day. All houses did a fantastic job with their stalls, it was so lovely to see all the bright colours across the hall. We are pleased to announce that we managed to raise £1000 at our bake sale! £800 will be going to Macmillan and £200, raised by our sixth formers, will be going to the Evie Dove Foundation.
