A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7

Form time is an important part of the Year 7 experience. Year 7 form time follows a set weekly schedule. On Monday we prepare for the week ahead by checking uniform, considering deadlines and sharing news before embarking on some silent reading. Tuesday has a form activity devised by myself which usually involves a class discussion on a theme relevant to the year group eg. How to make friends, how to revise for tests etc. This week we embraced ‘Storytelling Week’ by discussing our favourite books and sharing some anecdotes. On Wednesday we have a ‘Reading Aloud’ scheme where our book for the past term has been a suitably adapted version of Jane Eyre. On Thursday we use chromebooks to research a specific theme or news item. Fridays have been used as ‘Show and Tell’ time for our students to present to their peers on a topic that they are especially interested in. Congratulations to Isobel F, Daisy G, Nada K, Minnie M, Camille P, and Frankie T for representing the school at the Richmond Borough Cross Country event last Friday. Assemblies are held fortnightly and this week, as we enter LGBTQ+ History Month, Mr Isted led an assembly highlighting some inspirational LGBT people from the world of medicine. This was followed up by a linked chromebook research activity. 7PIR have blazed a trail in the house point chart this week. Not too far behind have been 7EDA and 7PUN. Well done and keep up the good work!

The Year 7 Parents Consultation Meetings will take place on the evening of Wednesday 21 February. Appointments will be able to be made with subject teachers from Thursday 8 February.

Please do share any of your child’s out of school achievements with us. We love to hear about the talents of our students so that we can celebrate them too.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

This book delves into the story of Isabella, who lives on an island filled with mythical legends and secrets. When a mysterious disappearance of a girl on the Island happens it leaves everyone with questions. The book follows Isabella on her quest of finding the missing girl on the island and solving the strange mysteries of the unknown. Meanwhile, discovering her past and the vibrant history of her ancestors. I like how fast paced and exciting the book is, while also allowing the reader to feel intrigued.
