Greetings from St. Thomas by Steve Peters Kettle Creek was formed over 10000 years ago by a torrent of water, running off a one-mile-high glacier that had stalled over present-day Elgin County. The source of Kettle Creek begins at Lake Whittaker, about 60 km northeast of its mouth in Port Stanley.
The location first appeared on maps in the late 1600s. The original name is not known, and the common historical story is that it was named by explorers who lost a Kettle in the present-day Port Stanley. We know that the First Peoples called it Kanagi (Iroquois) and Aukikseebi (Ojibwa). To the French, it was known as Riviere La Chaudiere or the Tonti.
