The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has released a guidance document, Improving Energy Efficiency in Traditional Buildings, offering clear and robust advice to Ireland’s M&E installers and other construction professionals. Supporting Ireland’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the focus is on enhancing energy efficiency in

The guide delves into topics such as understanding traditional buildings, specifying safe retrofit energy-upgrading measures and incorporating low- carbon heating and renewable sources. It recommends that competent specifiers and installers, possessing the requisite skills and experience, undertake energy-efficiency upgrades for traditional buildings following the department’s guidance. M&E installers should be a qualified Chartered Building Services Engineer with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers or Engineers Ireland, coupled with experience in working on traditional buildings and a knowledge of renewable energy technologies. www.gov.ie
