A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

We are now heading into the final week of half term. This week many of our Year 9 and 10 students took part in the Intermediate Maths challenge which was a big success. It was great to see so many Year 9 students so determined to do well. Congratulations to Immy B, Jasmine G and Olivia W for representing the school at the Richmond Borough Cross Country event last Friday. This week we also had our Year 9 options assembly where Mr Sharp went through the options process with the students and how it worked. This hopefully has allowed students to start thinking seriously about the subjects that they might want to pursue next year. Next week on Wednesday 7 February we have the Year 9 options evening where all parents and guardians will be invited to attend to hear more about the options process. This will allow you to work with your child to ensure that they make the best choices for them. Well done to the Year 9 students who got through to the next round of the ‘poetry by heart’ competition which involved them performing their poems in the Year 8 assembly this morning. They all did an absolutely superb job and it was fantastic to see so many students being such great role models for the younger years. Well done to Lucy D, Coco B , Alexa M, Mia W, Helena M, Artemis G, Ishka P, Andrea T, Ady N, Amelia F, Charlotte H, Elina S and Audrey C. Students who go through to the next round will be in with a chance to perform at the Globe Theatre! At the moment 9EJO are in the lead for the most epraise points in the year group. In second place is 9SPI. Well done everyone. Well done to Simona in 9PFO for securing a distinction in her Grade 3 Music vocals examination! We are still focusing on uniform in tutor time at the moment and are conducting regular checks. Please ensure that all students have lanyards and that they only have one earring in each ear. No bracelets are allowed as well. Thank you in advance for your support.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The 1000 year old boy by Welford Ross

The 1000 year old boy is about Alfie Monk who is a thousand year old but his mother sadly passes away in a fire and he no longer finds the appeal in his long life. Therefore he sets out to find the answers to become an average teenager. I found it really interesting to hear about his experiences and how it shapes his personality.
