PONDFEST COLLAGE? Get your dancing shoes ready for Byron-Springbank Legion’s 14th annual Rock the Village event happening on Saturday, August 16. The yearly community party runs from 2 pm to 11 pm, rain or shine. It’s a fun, all-day outdoor event for the community, and it takes place in the Byron-Springbank Legion’s parking lot. “It’s our one large outdoor event, and people love it because it’s different,” says Dorathy Cochrane, Event and Facilities Manager. “They love being outside, listening to the music and dancing. People come back every year because of the camaraderie they feel at it.” Byron Legion Rocking the Village this August The Byron-Springbank Legion held its first parking lot party in 2009 in collaboration with the Byron Optimist Club. The popular community event and fundraiser continued annually until Covid put a stop to public gatherings in 2020. The Legion rebooted the festivities in 2023 as another way to reconnect with the community after the pandemic. The Byron-Springbank Legion has always been a hub for people to gather. Recently, they received Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) status, which provides the opportunity to offer more mental and physical health programs and events for seniors and veterans to stay active, learn, and socialize.
“We want to give seniors in the community an opportunity to get out and socialize,” explains Dorathy. “It’s a chance to do different things and find companionship in a supportive community.” Rock the Village offers a fun opportunity to meet others in the community while tapping your toes and enjoying some lively music. Rock the Village is excited to be welcoming back two amazing bands that have played at the Legion before. The Three Letter Acronym (TLA) band will have everyone up dancing from 2:30 to 6 pm. Anyone who attended Rock the Village last year will remember this energetic five-piece band with lead singer Maxwell Jamieson, Larry Rigg on drums and vocals, Art Schaldach and Syl Levac on guitar and vocals, and Doug Mason keeping time on bass. TLA is a local band that has been playing together for nine years. They developed out of a band that Maxwell Jamieson created with co-workers from Cami Automotive in Ingersoll, where he works.
