on drums, and Gene Vandevyvere, the band’s newest member, plays rhythm guitar and shares vocals. Except for Malloy, who hails from the West, the other members are Ontario-born boys. Collectively, Cruise Control has over 100 years of musical experience. Cruise Control likes to include more complex songs in their set lists to test their musicality. Much of their musical influence comes from bands like the Beatles, the Police, Colin James, and Tom Petty. Like TLA, Cruise Control plays for the love of music and seeing their audience’s reaction to hearing their favourite tunes. Rock the Village is the place to be Saturday, August 16. Food and beverages, including alcohol and non-alcohol options, will be available for cash-only purchase. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 at the gate on the day of the party. TLA began as a hard rock band but then pivoted to performing 70s, 80s, and 90s dance music when they realized no one was dancing during their sets. “We’d have 13 guys singing along,” laughs Jamieson. “Now, our dance floors are packed.” TLA covers songs from a wide variety of bands, including CCR, the Eagles, Billy Idol, The Cars, Red Rider, Tragically Hip, and Styx. TLA loves playing the tunes their audiences remember from their younger days. They also play a diverse list of songs that many other bands don’t and pride themselves on keeping the songs in their original key signature. Jamieson explains that this helps vary the tempo of each set. Jamieson unabashedly identifies TLA as a “basement band” of guys who “just love to play music.” They perform publicly every few months at breweries, legions and private events. To see where TLA is playing after the Rock the Village event, find them on Facebook at TLA Three Letter Acronym Band. Cruise Control, who entertained at the Legion’s 2024 New Year’s Eve party, is thrilled to be back again and will take the stage at 7 pm, playing until 10:30 pm. Cruise Control is another London-based band created by Dave Lowes and Dave Malloy in 2022. They are a classic rock cover band that plays the greatest hits from the 60s to the 90s, and sometimes they throw in a song from the 2000s. “We lived and played rough during these eras,” explains Malloy. “We feel the music and do everything we can to make our audience feel it too.” Malloy is the band’s bass player and lead vocalist. Dave Lowes plays lead guitar and is the band’s music director. Larry Gaukel is Three Letter Acronym (TLA): (L to R) Larry Rigg, Syl Levac, Doug Mason, Art Schaldach, Maxwell Jamieson
