Time to Celebrate
T here’s just something special about birthdays, isn’t there? They give us a reason to pause, look back, and celebrate how far we’ve come, whether it’s another trip around the sun or another year of parenting victories (and chaos). In my house, birthdays have always been a big deal. I still miss my mom’s birthday call—she’d sing to me every year, off-key and all. Luckily, I saved a few voicemails so I can still hear her sweet, silly voice. The one song I don’t have recorded, that old radio birthday shoutout—you remember, right? Pretty sure it was The Beatles who sang a version of it. Well, the song always started like this, “Today is your birthday, do do do do do do, we’re gonna have a good time!” Pure gold. These days, the birthday scene looks a little different. As my kids get older, the guest list gets shorter and the themes... well, they no longer need 47 matching decorations and a handmade cake topper. I used to go all out—theme parties, DIY everything,
staying up way too late perfecting Pinterest-worthy details. Now, it’s more about pizza, good friends, and maybe a movie or some laser tag. And honestly? I love it just as much. I know I’ve still got a few milestone birthdays left before they head out into the world, so I’m soaking it all in. Whether it’s a big bash or a quiet dinner, every celebration is a chance to make memories. I’ll be there, camera in hand (and probably tearing up a little), trying to freeze time just for a second. In this issue, we’ve put together everything you need to make your own birthday magic, whether you’re the queen of DIY or prefer to hand the reins to a pro. However you celebrate, just remember: The chaos is fleeting, the memories last, and the pictures? You’ll treasure them forever. Go big. Take the photos. Eat the cake. And enjoy every messy, beautiful moment.
