PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE | DAVID WILKS

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The last month saw a lot of action at the Club with both the Men’s and Ladies’ Invitationals and other events too numerous to mention. We have hosted our friends and colleagues, enjoyed time with each other and gotten the most out of everything this Club offers. The South Course is in fantastic condition and our tennis courts are playing their best in years. We will soon put them to the test when we host the Delaware State Open Tennis Championships, which is always such a fun event to watch. What a great time of year. Many of us continue, of course, to put in the hours on the proposed irrigation and North Course projects. Andrew Green, Paul Roche and Darin Brevard visited the Club recently and explained their assessments and ideas from their architectural, irrigation and agronomic perspectives. About 30 of our directors, past presidents and members who have been working very hard on all this attended and asked all their questions. All of us were very impressed and walked away with a sense of assurance and inspiration. These links VIDEO 1 and VIDEO 2 will take you to a video of the presentation and this link RENDERING will take you to Mr. Green’s rendering of his plans. (The quality of the video may not be fabulous, but the message comes through well.) The financial and timing sides of the equation are still not clear enough to make any definitive decisions. But we will continue to keep you posted as we keep learning more. In the meantime, we can all enjoy this, the best time of year. We live in a country where we can say, believe, worship and associate with whatever and whomever we want. I know that I take those freedoms for granted far more than I should. The Fourth of July is a day when I am reminded that what we have is unique in human history. We can disagree, of course, on how we should do things and whether we are on the right track as a country. But we have the right to disagree with each other and say what is on our minds. Celebrating our differences, appreciating our right to our own opinions and honoring the men and women who have sacrificed to preserve our way of life are big parts of what the Fourth is all about. The celebration at the Club is a highlight of the year for so many of us.If you are in town, I hope you can join the fun. Our corner of this great country is the perfect place for it.
