JULY 2025

Growing Together With You

FIREWORKS, FORGOTTEN MOMENTS, AND A REMINDER Timeless Magic

We recently celebrated Military Appreciation Month, when we recognize the sacrifices and contributions made by members of the military. For our family, that means reflecting on our son Nicholas, who is currently at the U.S. Naval Academy. He chose a path that requires real sacrifice — giving up the typical college experience for a life of service to others. It’s humbling as a parent to see your child step into something that big. You raise them to be strong, independent, and capable, and then — almost without warning — they are.

So, when we recently had the chance to get the whole family together in Orlando, we jumped at it. Our daughter, Alyssa, is in medical school nearby, and between school, schedules, and life moving fast, it’s rare that all four of us are in the same place at the same time. But there we were, standing under the fireworks at Epcot in Disney World, just like we used to do when the kids were little.

who remember and laugh at my old jokes. Children who still get excited about roller coasters like they’re 8 years old. July 2 is also National I Forgot Day, which is usually a fun excuse to admit we all lose track of things — appointments, anniversaries, errands. But standing there, watching the sky explode in color, I thought about the other kinds of things we forget: the feeling of a moment, the rhythm of family when everybody’s home, how quickly the little years pass. I’m not sharing this to make a point. I just wanted to share the moment. I spend my days working through legal problems and helping people recapture hope and plan for the future. But like everyone else, I’m also just a dad trying to hold on to the time I have with the people I love most.

And something hit me.

Not in a dramatic, movie-scene kind of way. Just quietly. Like a thought you didn’t know you’d been holding in your chest for years. I realized that as our kids grow, these moments — when time slows down and we’re just together — feel shorter and more precious.

Happy with our service? We’d love to hear from you! We are always honored when our clients and associates refer their friends, family,

Not forgotten in the “where are my keys” kind of way, but the way you forget what it feels like to really be present. I hadn’t forgotten how much I love Disney, or how many memories our family has made there. But I had forgotten what a gift it is to have two grown children who still want to go to a theme park with Mom and Dad. Children

Sometimes, it takes a fireworks show and a forgotten memory or two to remind you what really matters. –Carmen Dellutri

Good Things Happen When People Watch Out for Others Christina’s car (not her real name) was crushed by an SUV that blew a red light. Christina’s pelvis was broken. She missed three months of work and watched the medical bills pile up. Another firm in town that advertised heavily glanced at the police report, called the liability “iffy,” and said no to her. Frustrated, Christina vented to her friend, a prior client we helped last year after his motorcycle wreck. He told Christina, “Call Dellutri. They took my case when no one else would, and I’m glad they did.” Christina did. We investigated her case thoroughly, digging into dash-cam footage, a newly surfaced witness statement, and the SUV’s data recorder. Liability couldn’t be contested after that. The insurance company caved and paid a confidential settlement that covered every bill and future therapy. FROM ‘NO CASE’ TO A BIG WIN

Christina now keeps a stack of our cards in her purse and hands them out like candy. We love Christina!

LOOK OUT, FLORIDA: CELLPHONE-TOTING TOURISTS ARE BACK!

Look out, Florida … the tourists are back — in July!

You heard right. It’s summertime in Florida, but somehow, the tourists missed the memo. Instead of waiting for winter, they’ve decided July is the perfect time to converge on our state — right into our left lane with their blinker on … forever. They’re here for the sunshine, the beaches, and the thrill of Googling “best fried shrimp near me” while changing lanes with no warning. Welcome to July as Cellphone Courtesy Month! We are all supposed to be especially mindful and respectful of others this month when using our phones. But at this point, it’s not even about the tourists. It’s about survival. Put your phone down. Set the playlist before you shift into drive. And if you’re texting and a tourist veers into your lane while FaceTiming their grandson — start praying. The Carmen Rule: Avoid Tourists at All Costs See a Buick with out-of-state plates doing 32 in a 55? Give them space. Is that SUV creeping across three lanes toward the exit ramp because Siri said, “Turn here?” Steer clear! Is that car parked in the middle of the road trying to take a selfie with a pelican? Brake early and often! They’re not malicious — just … confused. So, let’s do our part. Put your phone away. Expect the unexpected. And remember The Carmen Rule. See a Tourist? Steer Clear! If current trends continue, summertime highway hazards in Florida will only get worse. Summer tourism from July through September set a new record last year, with visitors up nearly 2% from 2023 to 35 million visitors, according to state tourism officials. All Floridians should be on alert: The state is no longer our own — not even in the summer!

A referral is the greatest gift we can receive from a client or fellow business! Last month we had ... • 30 referrals from friends, family, or previous clients • 8 returning clients for new matters • 6 referrals from other attorneys • 4 referrals from doctors and other professionals • We also send out referrals to our trusted referral partners! A Huge Thank-You to Our Referral Partners! What’s the Good News? “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” PSALM 91:1

So, Happy Cellphone Courtesy Month. Stay alert. Stay safe. And whatever you do, don’t trust a left turn signal by someone in a rental car !

When Monopoly Helped Win a War

You know Monopoly as the game that ruins friendships and sparks hourlong battles over Park Place. But during World War II, it played a much more significant and far braver role: helping Allied soldiers escape from German POW camps. Yes, really. In one of the most brilliant covert ops of the war, the British Secret Service turned Monopoly into a top-secret escape kit. Before this tactic, smuggling noisy paper maps without tipping off the guards was too risky, and getting caught could be fatal for prisoners. Enter silk — strong, weather-resistant, and, most importantly, silent. The British turned to John Waddington Ltd., the licensed Monopoly manufacturer in

the UK, who also happened to be an expert in printing on silk. It was a match made in espionage heaven. Waddington didn’t just tuck maps into game boxes, though. In a locked room most employees didn’t know existed, craftsmen rigged Monopoly sets with tiny metal files, magnetic compasses, and even real currency hidden beneath the play money. Each game was marked with a secret red dot on the Free Parking space — an insider’s clue for captured soldiers to look out for. Thanks to a clever partnership with the Red Cross, these “games” were slipped into POW camps as humanitarian aid packages. The guards thought they were passing along innocent

entertainment. Meanwhile, inside the box were the tools to freedom.

By the end of the war, over 35,000 POWs had escaped German camps — many with the help of these customized Monopoly sets. Though exact numbers are lost to history, Monopoly’s role in those escapes is one of the war’s clever secrets. The mission was kept quiet for decades to preserve the strategy for future use. Today, the story reminds us that the simplest tools can sometimes carry out extraordinary missions. Next time you pass “Go,” just remember Monopoly once helped people pass barbed wire.
