The 2024–2025 academic year marked the launch of the inaugural Herman Prins Salomon Fellowship. Established through th e generosity of Professor Herman Prins Salomon z”l, the Fellowship welcomed its first fellow, Professor Carsten Wilke, to Yeshiva University Libraries. During his residency, Professor Wilke conducted research using materials donated by Prof. Salomon and the Mendel Gottesman Library collection, engaged with graduate students, and delivered a public lecture entitled “Sephardic Clandestine Writing of the Early Enlightenment.” In his lecture, Carsten Wilke discussed Manuscript 1374, Dizertasiones by Abraham Gómez Silveira, dated 1699, which is on loan to Yeshiva University by Richard and Debra Parkoff.

This inaugural year of the Fellowship also featured the Herman Prins Salomon Memorial Lecture, delivered by Professor Claude Stuczynski, who addressed the Yeshiva University community and broader public with a keynote titled “Herman Prins Salomon (1930–2021) and His Portuguese Love Story.” A photograph of Professor Stuczynski during his lecture is included on this page.

Both events were hosted by the Mendel Gottesman Library and co-sponsored by the Bernard Revel Graduate School and the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Program for International Affairs.
