Haney then struck Cathrine Nichole Kirkland, 28 of Berry, driving a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse who then struck Lillie Camille McCrary, age 24 of Pisgah, driving a 2020 KIA Sorento. Haney was transported to Dekalb Regional by Dekalb Ambulance Service.

The Miss Northeast Beauty pageant was held on October 2, 2021, at the Tom Bevill Lyceum on the campus of Northeast Alabama Community College in Rainsville. The event’s organizers 2022 were thankful to host the pageant this year as last year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19. Callie Strickland was crowned Miss Northeast 2022. She is a Sophomore at NACC and is a Pre- Nursing Major. Callie is from Rainsville and she is a graduate of Plainview. “When I was named Miss Northeast, I felt so honored and blessed," said Callie.

“We congratulate Miss Strickland for being selected as Miss Northeast and we thank all who participated,” stated NACC President Dr. David Campbell. “All these young women displayed poise, intelligence, and attractiveness as contestants. We are proud of them all!"

The Miss Congeniality was presented to Kayla Henderson of Rainsville. She also won the Judges’ Interview category and was named the First Alternate. The Poise and Appearance Winner and second Alternate was Haylin Veal of Valley Head.

The NACC Student Popular Vote Winner and fourth alternate was Briley Bynum of Bryant. The thirdAlternate was Jaden Hallmark of Pisgah. Andrea Okwu is one of the college sponsors for the Miss Northeast pageant.

Newsworthy Notes & Events PAGEANT WINNERS - The annual Boaz Harvest Festival was held last month and the winners from the events beauty pageant are as follows: Miss Harvest Festival: Madison Camper (Queen), Jayda Lacks (First Runner-up), Shay Gamble (Second Runner-up), Gracie Boyd (Third Runner-up), and Makenlee Beck (Miss Photogenic); Teen Miss Harvest Festival: Kadyn Jo McKinney (Queen and Miss Photogenic), Marissa Land (First Runner-up), Chloe Alexis O'Bryant (Second Runner-up), and Yancie Danielle Haynie (Third Runner-up); Jr. Miss Harvest Festival: Raylee Mae Bunch (Queen), Piper Hales (First Runner-up), Julia Brylin Betz (Second Runner-up), Alleigh Miller (Third Runner-up); Petite Miss Harvest Festival: Naiyan Reid (Queen), Ella Blair Hadley (First Runner- up), Julia Reese Young (Second Runner-up and Miss Photogenic), and Penelope Rose (Third Runner-up) Little Miss Harvest Festival: Weslyn Rowe Smith (Queen and Miss Photogenic), Jaie Patton Lowery (First Runner-up). COMPLETERS RECOGNIZED - The Gadsden State Community College Skills Training Division has recognized students completing the Medication Assistant Program. GSCC began offering the training program in April with six students completing the first class. Those students have now also received their certification to work as Medication Assistants. These include Doris Boyd, Shanice Davis, LaDreaka Phillips and Lurena Wills, all of Anniston; Shokira Ledford of Gadsden and Christy Baker of Oxford. The second class of program completers recognized in September include De’Aundra Foster, Kara Griffin, Kaylin Ogg, Marissa Smith, Dana Ruiz, all of Anniston; Baleigh Clay of Cleburne; Ariette Fomby of Gadsden; Elaura Tant of Glencoe; Janelle Thomas, Brylee Wells, Dieren Weeks- Kadir, all of Jacksonville; Jessica Adams of Lineville; Melissa Johnson of Muscadine and Tiffany Morrissey, Philana Russell, both of Oxford. The Medication Assistant Program, designed to complete in four weeks, prepares students to administer routine medications to patients in nursing facilities, assisted living environments and more. ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF - The Boaz Police Department recently appointed Michael Hempel to Assistant Police Chief. The move comes after Michael Abercrombie was named the Boaz Police Chief this past September. 35th ANNIVERSARY - DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne is celebrating it's 35thAnniversary. A celebration ceremony was held on October 19, 2021 The Medical Center moved to is current location in 1986. AHS ALUMNI HALL OF FAME - Four people have been inducted into the 2020 Albertville High School Alumni Hall of Fame. The 2020 Inductees are Tony Cochran, Patrick "McGee" Moody, Raymond "Clarance" Waldrop and Eric Jones. Due to COVID, the group has chosen not to nominate or inductee any alumni for 2021. ICE SKATING - The City of Fort Payne is set to transform its Rotary Pavilion into a ice skating rink on December 17-20, 2021. TURKEYTROT - The Town of Collinsville will host its annual Turkey Trot on Nov. 13, 2021 from 10-4 p.m. CHRISTMASATTHE PARK - During December several events are happening at the Lake Guntersville State Park including Santa Pictures, Ornament Making, and the Park Christmas Buffet. LIGHT SHOW - The opening night for the 2021 Hall Family Light Show in Owens Crossroads will be held on Thursday, November 25 at 6 p.m. The event will run throughout the holiday season. MSSC CLASS - Gadsden State Community College’s Adult Education Services will be offering an MSSC class beginning Nov. 29 at Ralls Hall on the East Broad Campus. The class is designed to lead participants to being a certified production technician. The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) is the nation’s leading industry-led training, assessment and certification organization focused on the core technical competencies needed by the nation’s frontline production and material handling workers. Registration for the program is Nov. 8-11 and 15-18. Orientation and first day of class is Nov. 29. The training delivery is hybrid (conducted online and in-person). The 10-week boot camp style intensive training gives the student a full CPT certificate as the program addresses the core technical competencies of higher-skilled production workers in all sectors of manufacturing. All books, materials, registration fees and certification fees are fully funded by a Gadsden State Community College Adult Education Services grant. A third MSSC class is tentatively scheduled for January on the Ayers Campus in Anniston.
