AFTER A SUCCESSFUL ONE-DAY FESTIVAL IN AUGUST 2024, PRISMA IS BACK, BIGGER, BOLDER AND BETTER THAN EVER WITH A THREE-DAY QUEER FILM FESTIVAL FOR THE REBEL COUNTY. CORK’S NEWEST FILM FESTIVAL PRISMA BENDS THE LIGHT ON WHAT THE FUTURE OF QUEER FILMMAKING LOOKS LIKE IN IRELAND

their community. It was from this place of awe that PRISMA was born. What followed was months of Benni looking for grants and additional support for his festival. With lots of hard work, and the help of the National Talent Academies, Screen Ireland and The Roundy, a one day festival happened in the scorching heat of the end of August sun in 2024. CUT TO: INT. DAY. Close-up: pints flowing from chrome taps, bartender waiting for the perfect rise, followed by the perfect pass to pawing fingers across the bar counter. People laughing, chatting. Hustling up the narrow staircase in the Roundy and packing into the upper room like a tin of fruit salad. The crowd are eager to hear the speakers, to watch the films, to celebrate their own queer auteurs.
BENNI: MAYBE THIS CITY COULD DO WITH A QUEER FILM FESTIVAL.
Benjamin ‘Benni’ Rupprecht (he/him) moved to Cork City in 2021 and with him he brought a broad experience of festival management and film production. On arriving in the city, Rupprecht saw the untapped potential of the film scene and threw himself into the deep end. Benni got to work getting to know the key players in the Cork film scene through his monthly film talks Out of Frame , co-organising other film events in the city to meet the demands of the growing film community, while also, as queers tend to do, plotting. Here was a thriving queer city with a population who were making films and actively coming out to support
SCENE 1: CAREY’S LANE. EXT. NIGHT.
A young man, BENNI, rounded spectacles, fabulous scarf, walks through the streets of Cork. Traversing the cobbles, light refracting in the puddles, he takes it all in. The potential, the possibility. His mind racing, he wonders.
