Whether you're looking for support, connection, or just a place to be yourself, the LGBT+ society is here.” “At the MTU LGBT+ Society , we’re proud to provide a safe, inclusive space where students can be their authentic selves. Through events like FLAG Week, we celebrate diversity by collaborating with Matt Browne Chairperson. MTU LGBT+ Student Society. MTU LGBT+ society cork campus is a fun and safe space for LGBT+ students and allies alike. The student run society has 6 main goals around which the activities for the society are based. The aims are to support members, engage in social activities, to run education sessions, to signpost members to supports, to promote inclusions and to promote tolerance in the wider MTU community. To promote acceptance and understanding of all sexualities and gender identities has been a particular goal of importance to the society in recent years, and to achieve this goal the concept of FLAG (Festival of LGBT Awareness and Gratitude) week was developed. The FLAG week is hosted by the society with the support of the Societies and EDI MTU offices. In collaboration with the MTU Staff Network, the coffee morning which is held during FLAG week has become a highlight in the calendar to celebrate our LGBT+ students, staff and allies. Also during the week the society collaborate with other student societies activities to highlight that safe spaces for LGBT+ students exists in the MTU community outside of the LGBT+ society. This policy not only outlines support for more widely known hormonal conditions such as menopause but also includes consideration of hormonal health considerations for our transgender and non-binary community. This intersectional approach is underpinned by our first institutional Athena Swan Bronze Award, which showcases MTU’s current and future commitment to enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion across our university and beyond. “This Athena Swan Bronze Award will help us instil equality as a core value across our university in line with the goals set out in our Strategic Plan, Our Shared Vision 2022-27.
