This week was the deadline for our Year 13 students to submit their university applications. An immense amount of work goes into each and every one; students not only have to research a myriad of options before finalising their five choices but then have to draft their personal statements. A huge congratulations to them all.
Half Term - 12-16 February INSET Day - 19 February Back to School - 20 February
We are really excited to see how all their efforts translate into their destinations in September. However, the cycle continues and now our Year 12 students are beginning to think seriously about their next steps. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have attended our two information evenings, the first on general university applications and the second on Oxbridge. Our students have had the opportunity to stretch their talents this week. On Tuesday a group of our musicians from across all year groups took part in the ISSP Music Day at Hampton School. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to collaborate with talented, young musicians from a broad range of schools to rehearse and perform a concert in just one day. On Wednesday about 150 of our students in Years 9 and 10 took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. It was clear that the students were really excited about having an opportunity to test their mathematical skills and apply their learning. This morning some of our Year 9 students gave a poetry recital in Year 8 assembly which was truly captivating. There were lots of trips for Sixth Form students this week. Our A Level Spanish students really enjoyed visiting the Cervantes Theatre to see their set text The House of Bernarda Alba performed; whilst our French students enjoyed a study day on Contemporary New Wave cinema at the BFI Southbank and our Photographers visited the National Portrait Gallery to see The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize exhibition.

A little help goes a long way … The next events to raise vital funds for the school are the Quiz Night on Friday 23 February and the Silent Auction at the end of March. We really need your help in making these events happen. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11
Congratulations to Molly A, Lia H, Evie Y and Helena S-C for representing the school at the Richmond Borough Cross Country event last Friday. We are awaiting the team results but in the meantime we would like to particularly congratulate Molly on second place in this event and wish her good luck in the Middlesex Cross Country event next Tuesday.
In other sporting news, we have unfortunately had this week’s swimming gala and rugby matches postponed due to the opposition pulling out.
On Tuesday, a group of students had the opportunity to attend Hampton School where they spent the day participating in the Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP) Music Day. This event saw over 170 musicians from eight local schools come together to enjoy a wonderful day of music making. Well done to the following tutor groups who are top of the table so far this year for epraise points. In 1st place is 11SAS who have accumulated 629 points, 2nd is 11PON with 612, and 3rd is 11ERU with 536 points. A further well done to Evie Y in 11SAS, Kate W in 11PON and Flo N in 11SPA who are the top 3 individual students.
We have now entered February which is LGBT+ History Month. In line with this, in next week’s assembly we will focus on the theme of LGBT+ History whilst highlighting some inspirational people.
With one week left to half term we encourage students to ensure they are continuing to revise and be prepared for their core mocks in March. After the final GCSE timetable is issued if there are any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Never let me go is a suspenseful and absorbing science fiction novel and coming of age story which follows three friends through their unusual childhood. As secrets surrounding their time at the boarding school Hailsham and lives ahead begin to unfold the novel explores the idea of what it is to have a soul and the innate need to hold onto things lost. It’s a sorrowful and complex novel which criticises the extents of exploitation and the moral implications while debating with the blurred line between right and wrong. It’s a very short yet deeply thought provoking novel which I would highly recommend to anyone looking to read something full of love, identity and friendship but with a disturbing yet crucial message which will leave you changed.

ISSP MUSIC DAY
Hampton School joined forces with Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) to host the annual Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP) Music Day, when over 130 musicians from seven local schools came together to enjoy a wonderful day of music making. A group of Music Students from Waldegrave joined students from Hampton High, Hollyfield School, Orleans Park School, Tolworth Girls’ School, Hampton School and Lady Eleanor Holles for a day of orchestral and choral workshops. In addition to the large choir and orchestra, the young musicians also enjoyed rehearsing in a range of ensembles including String, Woodwind and Brass.
After hours of rehearsals, the day culminated in an evening concert for family and friends.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING Next week it is Safer Internet Day, which is held annually in February. Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of a safer and better internet for all, and especially for children and young people. This year’s theme is “Together for a better internet”. One of the key developments over the past decade has been in the sophistication and use of Artificial Intelligence. From online shopping to streaming platforms, or using the apps on our phones – AI is already changing how we live, learn, and work. Since it came on the scene late last year the newest version of ChatGPT has made a significant impact, with people excited about the possibilities that it may provide, but also sparking a lot of ethical concerns too.
