SECOND GRADE AT THE ORCHARD SCHOOL Second-graders at The Orchard School grow their competency in academic and social skills by setting goals and expectations that are based on an understanding of individual development and learning styles. Students are supported in taking steps to be responsible for organizing their own time and for the care of personal belongings and the group environment. Developing mutual respect, understanding and celebrating the diversity around us, and cooperation are explored throughout the year as foundational community skills. Orchard teachers use an integrated approach that connects academic areas with special classes when exploring specific concepts and units. Problem-solving, thinking skills, and practices to help build a sustainable future are interwoven into the curriculum.
