Middle School Curriculum Guide
MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Orchestra
In middle school orchestra, skills, concepts, and techniques build from year to year. Each year, students will learn new notes, key signatures, techniques, develop their ensemble skills, and play more challenging music. The first two years of the program are largely focused on basic skills and techniques. The final two years are focused on developing more complex skills and techniques and applying those in challenging repertoire in preparation for potential musical careers in high school. Students have several performance opportunities throughout each year of the program. The orchestra curriculum is based on the Indiana State Music Standards.
Technology
During middle school technology, students learn and take ownership of their digital lives. Throughout their four years, students tackle the big ideas of programming, problem-solving, thinking mathematically, and growing their logic and reasoning skills. Each year, skills and concepts build. Students will explore coding, basic animation, robotics, 3D modeling, circuitry skills, and graphic design. With these skills, they will construct multi-dimensional, integrated projects.
