Sixth Grade Curriculum Guide
SIXTH GRADE AT THE ORCHARD SCHOOL
Spanish
¡Hola!
Sixth-grade students taking Spanish at The Orchard School learn proper Spanish sentence constructions, articles, adjectives, subject-verb agreement, and regular verb conjugations. Students also continue to expand the vocabulary they learned in previous Spanish classes. They study the culture and geography of some Hispanic countries. The Spanish curriculum is based on Standards for Foreign Language Learning from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
Sixth-graders will grow as Spanish speakers by:
• Communicating in Spanish orally and in writing. • Understanding Hispanic cultures, perspective, and traditions. • Expanding their view of the world. • Reading Spanish short stories and verbally summarizing what they read.
Topics of Study
• Clothing, shopping, and how to express preferences and wants • Where people live and descriptions of a home’s layout • Places to visit and see on vacation, and ways to travel • Forming opinions on different types of movies, programs, and technology • Hispanic Heritage Month and notable Hispanic achievers • Día de los Muertos
