SEVENTH GRADE AT THE ORCHARD SCHOOL

Seventh-grade Spanish at The Orchard School focuses on preparing students for a more complex use of the Spanish language. Each Spanish lesson is designed to engage students in all three modes of communication: interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational. A main objective of the class is to give the student the ability to establish a strong foundation and promote future success in Spanish studies. The four foreign language acquisition skills are developed in every class: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Spanish curriculum is based on Standards for Foreign Language Learning from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
Seventh-grade students grow as Spanish speakers by:
• Communicate in Spanish in an oral and written way. • Understand Hispanic culture. • Understand other people’s perspectives and behavior • Expand their view of the world.
Topics of Study
• Formal and informal greetings, personal questions, emotions, and feelings • Family vocabulary • Celebration vocabulary. parties and holidays, and Hispanic celebrations • Body and health vocabulary, daily routines • Vacations and travel vocabulary, outdoor activities, places to visit • Grammar, subject pronouns, possessive pronouns, infinitive verbs, reflexive verbs, future tense, immediate future tense, past tense, and conjugation of regular verbs
