Eighth Grade Curriculum Guide

EIGHTH GRADE AT THE ORCHARD SCHOOL

Spanish

¡Hola!

Each Spanish lesson in eighth grade at The Orchard School is designed to engage students in all three modes of communication — interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational. A main objective of the class is to give students the ability to carry on a simple conversation, to establish a strong foundation, and promote future success in Spanish learning. The four foreign language acquisition skills are developed in every class: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The Spanish curriculum is based on Standards for Foreign Language Learning from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Eighth-graders grow as Spanish speakers by:

• Communicating in Spanish orally and in writing • Understanding Hispanic cultures. • Understanding other people’s perspectives and behavior. • Expanding their view of the world.
