C reating safe, vibrant and engaged communities is at the centre of a recent government housing transfer to AnglicareSA in Woodville. of remembrance, “Walk Through The Darkness”. The walk, hosted by AnglicareSA’s Living Beyond Suicide program, coincided with the International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. Nancy Penna, General Manager Community Services at AnglicareSA, said the event provided an important opportunity for the many South Australians bereaved by suicide loss to connect with each other, grieve and celebrate the lives of the people they have lost. “More than 200 South Australians die each year by suicide and it is estimated that at least 10 people are affected by each suicide,” she said. “The more we talk about suicide and the impact on our lives, families and the community, the more we can do to prevent suicide deaths. “Those left behind often struggle with feelings of guilt, shame, anger, regret or blame and they often feel isolated. Walk Through The Darkness helps people to know they are not alone and there is support for them.”
