Manufacturing PET preforms with high levels of recycled PET. How to run it with the most adequate approach? Preform converters and fillers that use recycled materials are faced with ever more variables due to the potential release of VOCs that occur after drying and the injection process. A highly efficient PET drying system ensures general process stability. Also, the detailed analysis of the acetaldehyde and benzene contents in preforms and R-PET pellets before processing provides a consistent quality of the preforms and the production lot tracking and certification. More than 50 years ago, plastic was considered the revolution in the packaging industry. Light, stable and malleable. Meanwhile, the world looks different: The topic „plastics“ or plastic waste is discussed worldwide and in many cases is rightly considered as a serious issue. We all know the terrifying images which are present in the media. FMCG companies are confronted with these images and face this challenge with different programs. But is it really the material “Plastic” that creates the problem? At first glance, maybe, but „plastic waste“ in the broadest sense does not have to become a problem at all. By avoiding waste, we have only reached a kind of base camp from which we can help the environment. We will only be successful in stopping the climate change by closing material cycles. How do we want to achieve this? We have to look into the impact of a packaging along the entire value chain and life cycle of a packaging.
