SAFER
Could you help? We’re on the lookout for people interested in volunteering and training to be a health champion, specialising in blood pressure checks. High blood pressure or hypertension is responsible for about half the heart attacks and strokes in the UK with young men particularly likely to be undiagnosed. You can give as much or as little of your time as you like, you don’t need to be an expert as training will be provided. Visit the website to get involved and potentially save someone’s life. volunteertelford.co.uk For some, flu and COVID-19 are unpleasant illnesses. But for many, particularly those with certain health conditions, they can be very dangerous and even life threatening. Every winter, thousands die from flu, and people can still get very ill or die from COVID-19. Catching both viruses at the same time increases the risk of serious illness even further. Vaccinations are our best defence against flu and COVID-19 ahead of what could be a very challenging winter, when viruses spread more easily. If you are eligible, getting both vaccinations will be two of the most important things you can do to keep yourself and others around you safe. It is important to top up your protection, even if you have had a vaccine or been ill with flu or COVID-19 before, as immunity fades over time and both viruses can change each year. Both vaccines have a good safety record, and if you were to experience side-effects, they are generally mild and do not last for more than a few days. Protect yourself this winter. Get your flu and COVID-19 vaccinations as soon as you are offered them. You can find out more information about both vaccines by visiting nhs.uk/covid-vaccine Get winter strong
