GREENER

Green spaces for all

Enjoy an abundance of nature

We have cleared, renovated and installed pathways, ramps and steps, upgraded fencing and gates and installed new benches including wheel chair accessible picnic tables. We have desilted pools, managed vegetation, planted trees, sown wildflowers and installed homes for birds, bees, bats and bugs. Over the last few months, people have been out and about enjoying wildlife activities held in our green spaces, spotting creatures and reaping the physical and mental benefits of getting back in touch with nature, why not join them?

Exciting species we’ve found

Dingy skipper butterfly in Langley Fields Local Nature Reserve – present on this site but declining nationally and quite rare, so we’ve harvested Birdsfoot Trefoil seeds to sow on another of our sites to give the butterflies a wider habitat.

“We’ve been creating a community that is a greener place for all – our borough is now home to more than 300 council-protected parks, nature reserves and green guarantee sites. “Not only are our

natural spaces important for supporting biodiversity, they’re also hugely beneficial to the well-being of those who visit and volunteer. “I’m delighted that, by protecting and investing in our green spaces, we’re helping wildlife to thrive and making nature more accessible for all.” Councillor Carolyn Healy Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for climate action, green spaces, heritage and leisure

Great crested newts in pools at Dothill Local Nature Reserve – we’ve recently dredged the pools and created new banks for poolside plants which will create a more diverse habitat for our newts and other creatures.

Daubenton’s bat in Dale End Park – known as the ‘water bat’, they catch insects from the water’s surface and can be seen flying just above the surface of the River Severn at Dale End Park. We have positioned bat boxes in the trees close to the river for this reason.
