CLEANER

On the trail of

fly-tippers

If you’re like us and have a zero-tolerance policy on people dumping waste and expecting others to pay for its clean-up, then you’ll be interested to know that a new penalty is in force. And it’s not just fly-tipping we’re cracking down on – other offences like littering, graffiti and fly-posting also have higher penalties too. How do you feel about fly- tippers?

The powers came about due to new legislation announced by the government to tackle anti- social behaviour. Previously rates of fly-tipping had reduced by 43%, but this has started to rise again. Despite increased investigations and more fines issued year-on-year, the rate continues to rise. You can help too. If you see someone fly- tipping or can provide evidence to help us prosecute, call our confidential hotline on MOBILE-ALT 01952 388800 . We also have a website where all our appeals and convictions are saved, take a look and see if you can help solve a case at telford.gov.uk/watch . *Duty of care means failing to dispose of waste – household or commercial – in the right way.
