“Plenty of reasons to celebrate” Holly, ivy, trees and Christmas decorations are ‘de rigueur’ at this time of the year but festivities do not start at Hollis Morgan until our December auction has taken place and then we have reasons to celebrate. This year was certainly no exception. Many of our clients were so tempted by the prospect of an early Christmas presents that they leapt at the opportunity to accept tasty offers on their properties well in advance of the auction. Despite this flurry of excitement, we still had a fine catalogue for competition on the night. The first Lot I could offer was a corner plot of land in Freemantle Road, Eastville with lapsed planning for 4 houses. Clifton is always a winner with a single lock-up garage making a handsome £44,000 – the price of a house in many parts of the country! – and a beautiful but virtually derelict period town house in an iconic setting on the Clifton/Hotwells borders immediately and swiftly raced away with a telephone battle finally being won by a very enthusiastic and happy purchaser on telephone line one at £500,000. Happy times all around! With nearly £6m of property and land sold it did not seem unreasonable to start the festivities but mindful that our February auction is already running! After a very busy year with the huge privilege of offering a wide variety of properties, land and development opportunities I have reached the conclusion that the unique role of an auctioneer is indeed an exciting one.
