THE POWER OF REGGAE HOW MUSIC CAN IMPACT YOU

Music is a powerful tool that can cheer us up or keep us going through a long workday. It can also unite us and convey powerful lessons. Personally, I love reggae because it enables me to handle situations in my life in a thoughtful manner. Since June 21 is World Music Day, I want to showcase my favorite artists and why they mean so much to me! Reggae has the power to calm you down and eliminate stress. My grandparents used to live in Jamaica, so my parents and I would visit them three or four times every year. During those unforgettable trips, I was exposed to reggae and the more relaxed Jamaican culture. Now, when I listen to music in that genre, it immediately brings me back to memories of my grandparents and a calmer mindset. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, I play some reggae. When my wife, Jenni, and I last visited Jamaica, we were in town checking out the tourist shops when I heard the faint sound of reggae and a high-pitched popping sound. The music and the sound immediately brought me back to when my dad would buy me heated peanuts at the beach as a kid. I walked out to see where the music was coming from, and it was actually coming from the same peanut cart from all those years ago! "The music and the sound immediately brought me back to when my dad would buy me heated peanuts at the beach as a kid. I walked out to see where the music was coming from, and it was actually the same peanut cart from all those years ago!"

I can’t talk about reggae without talking about my favorite artist, Bob Marley! When Jenni and I first started dating, I introduced her to Marley, and she quickly became a fan. It’s been nice to bond with her over the music that I’m so passionate about. My wife and I are such big fans that we were tempted to give our newborn the middle name Marley! While we enjoy Marley's music, the message behind it is what we love most. For instance, the song "One Love" points out that what really matters is banding together, being positive, and recognizing that we’re all in this crazy world together.

In every phase of my life, I’ve taken those lessons with me, and I don’t know where I would be without them. So, the

next time you’re in the office, don’t be surprised if you hear some Bob Marley, especially if it’s a Friday, and don’t be afraid to share your favorite artists with me! I’m always looking for something new and fun to listen to.
