ew Paltz lies 80 miles north of New York City. The upstate ham- let is home to students of the State University of New York New Paltz as well as a pot- pourri of an art and outdoor enthusiast community. Locals pride themselves in their pro- gressive pursuits yet remain strict about the development and commercialization of the area. The announced construc- tion of the first, major hotel within city limits came as a surprise to many. The approval of the Hampton Inn came only after the design features of the N

hotel matched the unique look of New Paltz. DesignPoint was selected to ensure that the décor of the lodging and the 87 rooms would uphold the local flavors. The 55,000 s/f cottage style building strays from the main Hilton designs, but meshes well with the streetscape. Having worked on several interior design projects with Hilton in the past, Design- Point is fluent in Hilton brand standards and the “perfect mix lobby” and “forever young initiative”.The lobby trans- formation focuses on utilizing

passive lobby space to en- courage activity. The forever young strategy is to appeal to the Hampton audience of Gen X and Millenials. Due to the experience with Hilton Hotels, DesignPoint’s submission of drawings and materials to Hil- tonWorldwide for approval was routine. This made the process easy for the hotel developer Jay Modhwadiya of Kingston Hospitality, who remarked that he was “very happy with DesignPoint” and “there were no problems or issues with the interior design process.” With many development projects it is expected that issues will arise during the process, but in working with DesignPoint on the hotel’s interior architecture this was not the case. The hotel’s General Manager Emily Martin said “I feel great about the hotel, every single piece of the interior is beauti- ful. DesignPoint’s attention to detail was exceptional.” The Hampton Inn at New Paltz opened in early 2017 and is located at 4 S. Putt Corners Road in New Paltz.
