N

ow, more than ever, going green is on the radar of businesses

that meet the needs of your business. Renewables are in vogue Due to enhanced equipment and a competitive marketplace, the price point of renewable technologies has put solar in vogue again. As a result, cus- tomers are feeling empowered and are more inclined to take control of their energy choices. Our customers are espe- cially taking interest in solar, one popular renewable that’s getting the thumbs up from consumers across the nation. As reported in a recent Pew Research Center survey, almost

nine-in-ten U.S. adults (89%) favor expanding use of solar power. The solar energy indus- try is taking note and gearing up to add more electricity- generating capacity than any other source this year. The Solar Energy Indus- tries Association (SEIA) “Solar Means Business” report shows that major U.S. corporations like Target, Walmart and Apple are going solar. Furthermore, it says that the top 25 corporate solar users in the U.S. have installed nearly 1,100 MW of capacity at 2,000 different fa- cilities across the nation as of

October 2016. The report also states that commercial prices have fallen by 58% since 2012 and by 16% in the last year. Plus, solar is good for mother nature. The amount of solar installed at U.S. corporations and busi- nesses is enough to offset 1.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. I predict that we’ll continue to experience this upward trend of solar energy usage, especially with businesses. Energy financing is hot Through our partnerships with a number of institutions

including Constellation Energy, customers can take advantage of attractive financing packages that make it possible for them to make capital improvements to enhance the look and feel of their building – adding to the comfort of their tenants and employees; oftentimes with no “out of pocket” investment. Case in point is The Foun- tains at Cedar Parke – a Con- tinuing Care Retirement Com- munity in Atco, NJ – that uti- lized financing over a five-year period to implement energy efficiency upgrades. Upgrading lighting technology, installing motion sensors and convert- ing HVAC system and hot water heater, and installing a control system resulted in more comfort for residents and employees. Instead of piece- mealing improvements over time, The Fountains made large-scale changes at once. As a result, The Fountains is saving $90,000 a year. Now, that’s ROI! Commodity procurement Many clients never stop to look at their utility bill; they as- sume they are getting the best deal from their local utility. Not necessarily. We not only guide customers to programs to help them take advantage of energy efficiency technologies, but we are able to direct them to gas and electric brokers that will decrease what they actually pay for their utilities. A good example is Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon, which underwent exterior lighting and hot water upgrades; not only are they are paying less for their gas and electric but ex- periencing $1,000/monthly sav- ings just three months into the program. The savings on the commodity piece will help fund energy efficiency upgrades. Layer this with financing and solar… it’s a win-win.
