inherent elements it cannot exist without. It utilises the competition for power, and its utilisation varies depending on the political culture of each system. Therefore, it is possible to link populist elements and apply them to certain Arab political systems in order to define their nature. Accordingly, this paper sheds light on Arab political systems, explores the phenomenon of power within the structure of these systems, and argues that in the Arab context, populism has been employed to legitimise power and maintain its monopoly and continuity.
