Thank you for your interest in the post of Building Surveyor at Associated British Ports. This role can be based from anywhere in the UK. This position will be supporting the lead building surveyor in setting, monitoring and evolving the processes standards and delivery of building surveying disciplines across the port estate. Helping to upskill regional teams to support, educate the wider business on opportunities and risks and manage, with internal and external support across multiple projects. The Port of Southampton supports 45,600 jobs and contributes £2.5bn to the nation’s economy every year. The port is the UK’s number one export port handling over £40bn of exports every year, underlining its national strategic significance.
Wales & Short Sea Ports ABP South Wales ports cover an area of 1,538 ha and together with their customers, they support 15,000 jobs across Wales and contribute £1.4bn to the UK economy. ABP’s Short Sea Ports span four geographical regions and eleven ports located in East Anglia, the South West, North West and Scotland, handling over 4 million tonnes of cargo every year. In both Wales and across Short Sea ports, ABP’s ports handle a broad range of cargoes and offer excellent opportunities for renewable energy developments and port centric manufacturing.

Building Surveyor

Best Practice: • Support with dilapidations strategy including but not limited to the setting and monitoring of best practice and process in the management of dilapidation activity. Provide advice and guidance as required. • Support of the insurance Reinstatement Cost Assessment process including managing outsourced suppliers, preparation of desktop assessments and advice on building costs and building cost indices • Set and monitor best practice in the procurement, registering and management of Energy Performance Certificates • Manage / support where required the procurement of external building surveying and project management advice for the property function • Support with the preparation of information/ management reports on projects highlighting any issues and exceptions occurring at project level.
Lead Building Surveyor
• Undertake such other duties related to the work of ABP as may be assigned and which are consistent with the nature of the job, its level of responsibility and within the post holder’s technical competence. • This statement aims to set out the main purpose and accountabilities of the job identified above. It is in no way exhaustive and the jobholder will be expected to carry out any other duties as may be required by their line manager commensurate with their grade/level in the Company and subject to the Company providing any necessary training.
Purpose: Supporting the lead building surveyor in setting, monitoring and evolving the processes standards and delivery of building surveying disciplines across the port estate. Helping to upskill regional teams to support, educate the wider business on opportunities and risks and manage, with internal and external support, multiple projects. A key element of the Property function supporting and prioritising Property initiatives across the portfolio. KPI’s: Supporting the Lead Building Surveyor on:- • Introduction of a robust dilapidations regime dealing with both entry and exit of tenants • Where appropriate supporting the property team in development projects • Upskilling regional teams to ensure all building related matters are dealt with in a timely manner including licence for alterations, schedules of condition, inspections etc • Educating and supporting the wider business on building related matters to ensure consistency and a fit for purpose estate
// PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Qualifications • MRICS, RIBA or CIOB Experience • Development experience focused on delivering change and working across boundaries. • Strong ability to analyse costs and to negotiate. Skills • Ability to produce clear and coherent plans and strategies to support the achievement of objectives. • Excelling communication skills. • Knowledge of forms of contract, contract negotiation, and management to ensure best value. • Experience of the development, implementation and monitoring of management systems. • Experience of procurement of works and services and contract management. Ability to engage at all levels being persuasive, informative and credible that sustains the confidence and trust of internal and external stakeholders.
