ORGANIZATION/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Performing Arts ● Music ● Theatre

Applied Classroom and Theatre Arts: The applied classroom music program and theatre arts curriculum provide an authentic learning experience through engaging in the artistic process . The artistic process , as outlined in the National Core Arts Standards, consists of four primary areas of practice: Creating , Performing , Responding, and Connecting . The Performing Arts curriculum fosters competence in self-discovery, presentation, expression, creativity, and communicating complex human feelings. Students in classroom music/theatre arts will engage in a variety of practices and analysis exercises, including singing, dancing, acting, playing instruments, reading/writing/composing music and theatrical works, creating/analyzing music and theatre with technology, learning about relevant music/theatre historical events and influential musicians/artists. Classroom Music: Elementary School - RJ Grey Students in elementary school have music class with a music specialist at least once per week. Students at RJ Grey have music class for one semester in 7th grade and may participate in ensemble/performance groups in both 7th and 8th grade. ABRHS Classroom Music Electives ● Piano and Ukulele ● Music in Film ● Electronic Music Production Performance Music Ensembles, Elementary, JHS, and HS: Performance Music Ensembles expand on skills learned in the applied music curriculum. Performance Music, also present in the National Core Arts Standards, provides a unique, community-based performance experience where students collaborate across classrooms and grade levels to accomplish their shared artistic goals. Students prepare individual and ensemble music for presentation at concerts throughout the community. Additionally, teachers encourage students to develop a joyful, skill-based identity in music through individual preparation and performance goals.
