The second graph plotted (Figure 1.2above) compares the GCI average with the Global Gender Gap Index. 4 The Global Gender Gap Index measures gender parity in 4 subindexes in order to work out the overall Index. Here, a clearer trend can be seen that the lower a country’s GCI average, the better the gender equality (0 being no gender parity, 1 being absolute gender parity). This shows that in a good society, gender equality is more prevalent. However, if we were to follow the trend here, then a fully ‘good’ society would have a gender parity of around 0.92, which shows that the kindest, most ethical, most progressive society cannot be fully equal. Therefore, in a kind, ethical, and progressive society, there are extremely high levels of equality, but it cannot be entirely equal.
