N ot only does the ‘Cheltenham roar’ announce the arrival of The Festival™, horseracing’s showpiece event at the Home of Jump Racing. It is also the spontaneous yet deliberate release of a pent-up anticipation and expectation that has been building for a whole year. However, on Tuesday 15 March 2022, the simple process of the tape going up before
the rst of 28 races over the four days of The Festival ends a wait not of 12 months, but of 24. Not since the curtain fell on the 2020 Cheltenham Festival have capacity crowds returned to Prestbury Park. And while the easing of restrictions in July signalled a return to pre-pandemic spectator numbers, the 2022 Festival will be one of the most eagerly- awaited sporting events in the calendar.
