F EATURE SPOTLIGHT ON TRAINERS

RICHARD PHILLIPS Located north of Stow on the Wold in the picturesque village of Adlestrop, Richard has been training racehorses at the highest level for over 25 years. In 2002, he started to develop Adlestrop Stables into a state-of-the-art training facility and enjoyed immediate success when La Landiere won the Cathcart Chase at the 2003 Cheltenham Festival.

Eyeofthescorpion This is a horse we have always thought quite a lot of. We think he’s exciting and he’ll be aimed at the long-distance hurdles in spring. Phillapa Sue We kept her back as a novice over hurdles this year. She is a smart mare and the plan is to aim for one of the Mares’ Hurdles in March. Marble Sands He’s a lovely Martaline who won an Ascot bumper last year. He’s very well bred and has strengthened up over the summer. He will go hurdling and will be great fun. Dublin Four He’s a big, strong chasing sort who was progressive last year. He’s one to be excited about. Aviewtosea He won his bumper last year at Carlisle, really battling it out. He will be decent over hurdles this year but even better of a fence. GRAEMEMCPHERSON As well as training horses from his state-of-the-art base at Martins Hill in the North Cotswolds, Graeme McPherson is also an in-demand QC. Having previously ridden and trained Point-to-point horses for a number of years, he took his training licence out in 2010. With around 50 horses in training, he has enjoyed significant success year on year in the last decade.

bumpers, winning on her last start and now off over hurdles. Mrs Barnes Mrs Barnes has taken time to mature but showed great promise and will now go chasing. Picanha Unbeaten, having been a winner of an Irish point-to-point and a bumper – one for the notebook!

Lesser An Irish point-to-point winner who was impressive in his bumper at Bangor. Pop Mistress A dual bumper winner, she has been very impressive in her victories! Mattie Ross Has shown promise in mares’

Enfant Roi All being well he’ll run in the Becher Chase in December. His long-term aim is the 2022 Grand National at Aintree. Zurekin He is the best horse we have trained and hope all roads lead to the Marsh at The Festival. Garo De Juilley He’s been a stalwart for nearly 3 years and will hopefully head to the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. McGroarty He will be campaigned in the top handicaps over hurdles and fences in France this autumn. Ashutor A recent purchase from Paul Nicholls’ stable, he ran well in the Grand Annual and we are very excited to have him.

SOPHIE AND CHRISTIAN LEECH Following success on the point-to-point circuit, Sophie realised that she had a flair in training racehorses. She took out her full licence in 2007, with her husband Christian as Assistant at Tudor Racing Stables near Westbury- on-Severn in Gloucestershire.
