PETITION SIGNATURES SUMMARY

The Joshua Tree Arts & Technology Academy received the number of physical parent signatures required by the California Education Code. Remarkably, all of the petition’s signatures were collected in just over two weeks prior to the petition’s date of submission —every day, more parents express their desire to have their children attend and more community members sign their support. There are  three parts  to  the  signatures  sec0on:   1. Parents who  indicated online or  signed  the physical pe55on  sta5ng  they had  children   going  into grades 4-­‐12  that  they wanted  to enroll  in  JTATA;   2. Complete  list of parents across all grade  levels and  community  supporters who   expressed  their  support  for  the  forma5on of  JTATA;   3. Actual  valid  signatures of parents who were able  to physically  sign  the pe55on  sta5ng   that  they were meaningfully  interested  in enrolling  their  children.   At time of petition’s submission: 150 First year a5endance  target child(ren) but  could not make  it  to   the Cultural Center  to physically   sign  the pe00on prior  to  the   pe00on’s  submission 179 Number of  students who already want  to enroll   (As of date of  the pe55on’s  submission.) ** Calculated on average child-to-parent ratio. *California Education Code §47605 (a)(1) Except as set forth in paragraph (2), a petition for the establishment of a charter school within a school district may be circulated by one or more persons seeking to establish the charter school.  A petition for the establishment of a charter school shall identify a single charter school that will operate within the geographic boundaries of that school district.  A charter school may propose to operate at multiple sites within the school district, as long as each location is identified in the charter school petition.  The petition may be submitted to the governing board of the school district for review after either of the following conditions is met: (A) The petition is signed by a number of parents or legal guardians of pupils that is equivalent to at least one-half of the number of pupils that the charter school estimates will enroll in the school for its first year of operation.
