A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

It is a pleasure to welcome all of Year 8 back to school after the half term. We hope that you enjoyed a restful break and have returned to school feeling refreshed after the half term.

This term during form time our year 8s will be following a programme of daily mindful techniques to encourage positivity and positive internal dialogue. These sessions will help build resilience, wellbeing, self-confidence, strong character, and powerful coping strategies on a daily basis. It has been wonderful to see year 8 engaging in these activities. This week was the first round of the Borough Athletics Team Trials for the throwing events. It has been encouraging to see so many Year 8s putting themselves forwards for the events and striving to be selected to represent Waldegrave. Next week (Thursday 3- 5pm) will be the trials for the track events please encourage your child along. Well done to the Year 8s who are part in the Y7/8 Rounders Team who played a competitive match against Hampton High School on Tuesday. They lost 9 - 11 but it was a great game and experience for all who took part. Well done to all those students who are consistently demonstrating the enjoy, achieve and empower aspects of school life and continuing to accumulate very well earned epraise points. This term our focus is maintaining high uniform standards and Year 8 form tutors will be continuing to check uniform and equipment daily. I will also be visiting form classes. Please support us in reminding your child to be fully equipped with their lanyard and in the correct uniform each day.

Thank you for your continued support. Looking forward to a wonderful Summer Term!

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘The Princess and the Suffragette’ by Holly Webb This is a truly inspirational book about the struggles for women and children in the early 1900s. Set in 1913, the book revolves around the suffragette movement, a campaign group active from 1903 to 1914 which used direct action to advance their aim of achieving women’s suffrage (the right to vote) in the United Kingdom. The book describes the difference in lifestyle for the poor and the rich, covering relatable topics such as divorce and adoptions. I loved how relatable all the characters were and it has slowly become one of my favourite novels of all time! I suggest this book to any historical drama fans, comedy and even non-fiction lovers. Read this if you enjoyed the ‘Rebel Girl’ series or ‘Secretly a suffragette’. I absolutely recommend this book to all ages!
