Competitor Spy File
All Project Managers, Estimators, Superintendents, & Foreman:
In efforts to keep Leopardo Companies, Inc. the most competitive General Contractor in Chicagoland, the Estimating Committee has developed a “Spy File” on our competitors. We are making every effort to track projects of other General Contractors along with the subcontractors they are using. Since, many of our employees are traveling by these sites, we are asking for your help. We would like you to notice what subcontractors are performing work and write down pertinent information that will then be made part of our files. To help you with this, we have developed a Subcontractor Spy Sheet. These sheets printed on blue colored paper and bound into a note pad format for ease of use. Most of you can keep them on the front seat of your car or truck so you can write down the information you collect immediately. When visiting a site: In most cases, you can usually find between 4 and 10 subcontractors on any given job at one time. They can be found by looking at trucks and vans parked in the lot, or by looking at the equipment for company names. This is a relatively easy thing to do and doesn’t take much time. On the spy sheet, there is a minimum amount of information that we want. These items include your name and the date so we may contact you for further information, the job site name and address (cross streets will suffice), the General Contractor, and the subcontractors present. All of these items have asterisks (*) next to them. After gathering the information: When a sheet has been filled out as much as possible, send it to the Estimating Dept. In-Box at our Corporate Headquarters. From there, we will be analyzing the lists, contacting new subcontractors we don’t currently work with, and tracking the General Contractor. At some point in the future this information will be available through our network for all of us to share. During the bidding process, Estimators and Project Managers can access this information to find subs that may be bidding our competitors, as well as finding the correct subs to use on particular jobs. Please find attached, a competitors list of the General Contractors we want to keep track of. By no means, are these the only ones to watch. This is just a list of our top competitors. If a particular job merits it, we may also ask some of you to visit a particular job on a regular basis to collect information on all of the subcontractors present.
Not only will your teamwork help us expand our subcontractor database, it will also help us beat our competitors and continue Leopardo’s strong growth pattern.
