to the aroma of fresh rosemary and thyme, the garden engages all senses and provides an opportunity to interact with the environment for all who visit. The idea of developing the library’s courtyard started in December 2021. The Watershed Stewards Academy, a group that trains and mobilizes community leaders to drive change for sustainable landscapes and clean waters, approved the project and assigned steward candidate Ayia Lindquist to create the plan for the garden, apply for funding, source the materials and coordinate the installation and upkeep of the garden. Thanks to the hard work of our library staff and the Watershed Stewards Academy, the sensory garden continues to thrive after being installed in November 2022. Funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, the Library Foundation and the Gardens of Connection, the garden has been the site of many educational programs and can be enjoyed year-round.
