Engine Performance Diagnostic Strategies 2/15/20, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Class #228, DeVos Grand Gallery D This class is designed to keep technicians current on changing engine management systems and diagnostic procedures for Asian and Domestic vehicles. The focus is helping the technician become more proficient in interpreting the info the scan tool provides for engine performance diagnostics. Using strategy-based diagnostics, we establish a foundation to reduce diagnostic time and prevent emission-related check en- gine light comebacks. We discuss utilizing scan tool information to gain diagnostic direction to repair today’s most seen engine performance concerns. Putting the pieces together during an engine diagnostic is a lot like reading a road map; the key to success is finding the shortest path to the destination without getting lost. Presented By: DR1V Speaker: Drew Jablonowski This seminar provides professional technicians with a perspective on how to properly service to- day’s braking and steering systems on vehicles equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist Systems). We will briefly discuss system opera- tion of the ABS/VSC systems to set the ground- work for deeper discussions, like diagnostic procedures. Electric power steering systems and their contribution to ADAS will be discussed, as well as proper service and calibration proce- dures. Active safety systems and their operation- al strategies will be outlined. In addition, safety system alignment resets will be discussed. Get Into the Market: How to

NEW

Service European Vehicles 2/15/20, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Class #224, DeVos Gallery Overlook H

Servicing European vehicles can be very prof- itable if you know how to avoid the snags. We will show you what to service, and how to find the common problems before they find you! Subjects include oil service, battery register and dual battery, SBC and EPB brake systems, TPMS resets, common and uncommon fluid leaks, tire and wheel service, driveline and transfer case faults, and understanding driveability issues. Emphasis will be placed on BMW, Porsche, Audi, VW, and Mercedes-Benz. The best part? After- market scan tools are now able to perform the necessary resets and functions to make your shop profitable! Presented By: ATEC Training Speaker: Phil Eng This class will focus on variable valve timing (VVT) systems used by vehicle manufacturers. Previously, engineers had to choose the best compromise in valve/cam timing and ended up sacrificing to gain in another area. VVT allows the best of both worlds – increased performance and economy and lower emissions. There are a multitude of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that can set related to VVT faults stemming from oil contamination to inoperative cam actuators and oil control solenoids. We explain the vari- ations of VVT systems and look at diagnostic tests that can be performed using the scan tool and other diagnostic equipment to confidently diagnose before the costly and labor-intensive engine teardown for service.
