A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9

Welcome back to our final half term in Year 9. We started off the week thinking about how we can work together to have a positive end to the school year. I know that many students are excited and slightly apprehensive about the next stage in their school journey, but we have reminded them of the school support which they can access and this includes our new support platform Zumos. As a school we have been given access to this helpful tool which works to support our young peoples mental health. Each member of our school community has been given a login and password in order access the resources. Please do spend some time looking at the platform and speaking with your young person about how they might use this. The details can be found here: https://www.zumos.co.uk/.

We have started the half term brilliantly with the top Epraise for forms being: 1st 9EMU 2nd 9PWA 3rd 9FCO

We are so proud of our students who consistently have the correct uniform, equipment and those who are consistently showing kindness around the school site and are focused in lessons. Congratulations again to Daisy M who has won another hammer throwing competition over the weekend, beating her PB again! Our focus this half term is on students wearing the correct uniform at all times. This includes their lanyard while walking around the school building. I would like to take this opportunity to echo Mr. Goulbourne’s letter which you will have received regarding the importance of wearing the correct uniform and the policy around lunchtime detentions. I have re-iterated this message to Year 9 forms groups , and I would ask that you support us by having these conversations with your child/ren at home.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

MRS MORTIMER, HEAD OF YEAR 9

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Things a Bright Girl Can Do’ by Sally Nicholls Set in the early twentieth century, this novel follows three brave young women as they all become involved in the Suffragette movement. I loved how Nicholls brought the time period to life, showing what it felt like to be a woman and girl during that turbulent time. But if historical novels aren’t usually your thing, don’t be put off. It feels really modern and fresh, exploring issues like class differences as the three main characters come from different backgrounds. There is also a beautiful love story between two of the characters. It has something for everyone!
