Road rage assault case

Domestic disputes Hawkesbury OPP handled 20 domestic dispute calls during the last two weeks of March. Three women and four men each face charges resulting from several separate in- vestigations. No names have been released. One woman is now charged with defa- mation and with publication of an intimate image without another person’s consent. One other woman is charged with assault and uttering threats, while a third is charged with harassment and breach of a recogni- zance order. One man is charged with assault fol- lowing police investigation of a domestic dispute report while another is charged with harassment and uttering threats. Police have also charged one man with three counts of failure to comply with court order conditions and with unauthorized use of a computer, while a fourth man is charged with failure to comply with a legal undertaking. Trailer theft Police have a stolen equipment case involving a dump trailer and are asking for help from the public. A black 2010 Sure-Trac dump trailer, va- lued at $12,000, was stolen from a Hawkes- bury business site located on Main Street East. The theft occurred just before 11:30 p.m., March 22. The OPP is putting out a general alert to all Ontario residents to be wary of phishing scam emails. Phishers use email messages of various types in an attempt to get personal identity information that they can either use them- selves to commit fraud or steal from themark or else sell the information to others so they can commit identity theft crimes. Phishers will send emails claiming they represent legitimate agencies like Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), or businesses like Telus or banks, or non-profit and charitable groups. Right now in themonth of April the phony CRA email scam is one of the most An Alfred man faces charges after OPP were called out to a reported “road rage” incident that began in Alfred-Plantagenet Township and finished in Hawkesbury. Paul Giroux, 40, of Alfred, is charged with assault with a weapon. The Hawkesbury detachment received a call April 6 just before 9:30 p.m. about an assault in town which was the result of a road rage situation that originated earlier in the evening in Alfred- Plantagenet. Police incident report states that the alleged victim of the assault had passed a slow-moving vehicle on County Road 17.

Stolen boat motor An outboardmotor went missing from its boat. The motor is a 1986 Evinrude 30hp, light blue in colour. It was attached to a boat parked behind a garage at a resi- dence on Principale Street inWendover, Alfred-Plantagenet Township. Anyone with information can call the Hawkes- bury OPP detachment at 613-632-2729 or 1-888-310-1122 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477. A passerby witnessed the activity and phoned 911. Police arrived and arrested Giroux who was later released on a promise to appear at the May 4 provincial court ses- sion in L’Orignal. That vehicle then sped up and tailgated the other one all the way to Hawkesbury into the Thai Express restaurant parking lot on Tupper Street. The police report states that “the agita- ted driver walked up to the victim’s vehicle, holding a long hammer and started yelling at the victimwhile waving the hammer in a threatening manner.”

Phishing scammers angle for new victims popular phishing routines .

The email asks the victim to either go to a particular website, or provide personal information details, or even bank or credit card I.D. numbers and passwords as part of a security check. A simple way to beat the phisher is to refuse to provide any personal or financial identity information. Maintain and update all firewalls and anti-virus software on home and office computerss and change passwords on a regular basis. Contact police and local banks or credit card companies if you suspect a phishing attempt.
