the survival of the fittest — that is that the weaker specimens of life died off, gave way, or were killed by the higher types, this made evolution pos sible. Yet, as the Times article asks, “If survival of the fittest is an acceptable description of evolutionary behaviour, why have such well equipped creatures as the saber-toothed tiger died out while the mouse survives to this day?” A great number of pages in one of our national picture magazines has been dedicated to the teachings of Dar win and his followers. Great efforts have been made to connect man with monkey. Of all the full color pages so given, when called on the issue of pre senting theory as fact, the editors pub lished a one and an half inch, one column retraction which states: “An thropologists believe that the common ancester of apes and man was a mon key-like animal which also exhibited certain characteristics, later fully de veloped in either apes or man. The edi tors should have said that proconsul is probably the common ancestor of apes and man.” Now, a system of teaching which is based upon probabilities is certainly not science and should never be taught as such. If one kind of a plant or animal had ever been changed into another, we should expect to find evidence of this. However, it cannot be found ex cept in the minds and probabilities of those who propound the theory and confuse others on the subject. Evidence is completely lacking. Some teachers have even gone so far as to try to explain away these difficul ties by saying that evolution might be taking place very rapidly — by great leaps, and bounds. If this were true, we could expect to see new organs appear ing all of a sudden in man. But such has not been the case in all of recorded history. It seems so much more reason able to suppose that the missing links never existed and that all of our large groups of plants and animals appeared suddenly. Also that plant and animal life appeared fully developed. This came about only and wholly through the creative act of Almighty God!
