SENIOR SCHOOL

Wheelchair Basketball Fun! In weeks 2-5 of term 1, the Year 11 Physical education class have participated in a wheelchair basketball unit. Led by the amazing Michael Neroni from Disability Sports SA, who not only has spina bifida but also plays in a league, the students got firsthand experience of the challenges and joys of wheelchair sports. As they learned the ropes of the game, the students also got a taste of what it’s like to navigate life in a wheelchair. Michael shared his personal experiences and daily struggles, inspiring the class to be more grateful for the little things in life. But the highlight of the unit? A school-wide tour in wheelchairs! With Michael leading the way, the Year 11s rolled through the yard, gaining a newfound respect for the incredible strength and resilience of those who rely on wheelchairs every day.. The year 11s were extremely respectful, thoughtful and quite talented.

Year 12 Kayaking The year 12 PE class had a splashing good time during weeks 6 and 7, as they hit the waters of West Lakes for a 2-day kayaking extravaganza. Not only did they earn their Basic Skills Certificates, but they also got a head start on their first assignment of the year, analysing the biomechanics of a paddling stroke. And who better to guide them than TVCS Old Scholar, Jack Tingey (‘19). He led them through forwards and backwards paddling, sweep strokes, and even deep water rescues. But the real test of their skills? Standing up in their kayaks away from the shore to show off their balance. The group also took on a one-hour continuous paddle around one of the islands in West Lakes, showing off their kayaking (and endurance) skills. Needless to say, Jack was blown away by their talent and how they handled themselves during the unit.
