«I think Morocco has several assets that allow it to meet the challenges of innovation in the financial sector. The quality of telecom infrastructure and Internet speed make the Kingdom one of the leading African countries in digital area. The high mobile penetration rate, which exceeds 120%, is an opportunity for the financial sector. Especially that the digital allows a better financial inclusion and lowers the costs of financial transactions. The creation of the national mobile payment platform also bodes well with the general business environment. However, when compared to other African countries, to name only Kenya, Senegal or Ivory Coast, Morocco is lagging behind in the field of mobile payment. One of the biggest challenges in this area relates to the use of this technology. Providers of this service must ensure that Moroccans adopt this means of payment which might take time. To give an idea, the use of money has become widespread in France over a very long time, precisely 150 years.
