of Landmark Science & Engineering , one of the leading regional consulting firms specializing in site/ civil engineering, environ- mental sciences and land surveying announced that firm associate John Gon- zalez, P.E., CPSWQ , Mary- land office branch manager, has been recognized by the Cecil County Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA) as a community leader to serve as Master Watershed Steward. He also received the 2017 Business Spotlight as recipient of State Recog- nition by the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce, in part, for his achievement as a WSA Master Watershed Steward. Gonzalez is a Maryland professional engineer and a Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality who has completed the WSA, a year- long training program focused on how to identify and treat stormwater runoff in and around local communities. WSA participants spend 60 hours in the classroom learn- ing about stormwater princi- ples, community outreach and education, and identifying re- sources and building partner- ships to address water quality issues. They spend time in the field learning about the installation and maintenance of small-scale stormwater management practices, and get hands-on experience com- pleting projects in the field. The class project included the installation of a rain garden and permeable pavers that capture and treat stormwater runoff from a portion of the

For his capstone project, Gonzalez teamed with an assistant to the Charles- town Town Administrator to design and construct a rain garden at Charlestown El- ementary School that would collect runoff from the imper- vious surface of a school play- ground area and convey the stormwater in underground piping to the rain garden. New Castle, DE — The board of directors of Land- mark Science & Engineering, announced achievements by two members of its engineer- ing staff. Keith Rudy, P.E., LEED AP , a firm principal, has been awarded the 2017 DAPE Distinguished Service Award by Delaware Associa- tion of Professional Engineers. Dakota Laidman Murray has passed the Professional Engineering exam and is now a registered Professional Engi- neer in the State of Delaware. Rudy is a registered profes- sional engineer with 25 years of civil/site engineering ex- perience, director of Sciences & Water Resources, and a principal of the firm. He has served as member of the DAPE LawEnforcement/Ethics Com- mittee for 13 years, since 2004, and has participated in

numerous investigations. The DAPE Distinguished Service Award is presented annu- ally to a committee member who has exhibited exemplary service to DAPE and the en- gineering community. Keith said he was “honored to be the 2017 DAPE Distinguished Service Award recipient” and “humbled to be included in this list of impressive professional engineers.” Past recipients include: Eugene Snell, Robert Chagnon, J.G.S. Billingsley, Ana E. Diaz, Robert W. Mc- Clure, Daniel Koffler, Arkan Say, James S. Davidson, and Keith R. Kooker. Dakota Laidman-Murray, P.E. passed the professional engineering exam in April, 2017 and is now a registered Delaware Professional En- gineer. She has worked at Landmark Science & Engi- neering since graduating Cum Laude from the University of Delaware in 2012 with a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering degree (with Water Resources and Water Quality concentration and a minor in Civil Engineering). At UD, Dakota was awarded the 2012 Hagerty Environ- mental Undergraduate Award for demonstrating outstand- ing professional and research potential in Environmental Engineering. n
