National Stroke Week 2024

To celebrate National stroke week, Ryde hosted a vibrant and informative event aimed at promoting stroke awareness and prevention. The celebration included a variety of activities designed to engage both staff and visitors in understanding the importance of stroke prevention and early detection. Blood Pressure Checks was one of the key activities offered to all attendees. This simple yet vital screening helped many individuals become aware of their blood pressure status, a crucial factor in stroke prevention. Stroke Prevention Education throughout the day, by our healthcare professionals provided educational sessions on stroke prevention, including important topics such as recognizing risk factors, the impact of lifestyle choices, and the importance of regular health check-ups. A Quiz made learning about stroke more engaging fun. Participants eagerly tested their knowledge on stroke facts and prevention strategies, with winners receiving small prizes. This interactive approach helped reinforce critical information in an enjoyable way.

Lifestyle Modifications that can reduce the risk of stroke was a special focus. Topics included healthy eating, regular physical activity, and avioding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Attendees were encouraged to adopt these changes to improve their overall health. Demonstrating BEFAST tool for the early and timely recognition of stroke symptoms was one of the highlights of the day. BEFAST stands for Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time. It helps recognise stroke symptoms early, and attendees were shown how to use it effectively. Understanding these signs and seeking immediate medical attention can save lives and improve outcomes. Roadshow to the Wards brought the Stroke Day activities directly to the patients and staff to spread awareness and ensured that the information reached as many people as possible. The day was a huge success, with active participation from both staff and visitors. It raised awareness about stroke and empowered individuals to take proactive steps towards stroke prevention and early detection.
