Scripture Alphabet (Continued) “ He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:12). “ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6 ). “ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). “ Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit o f God dwelleth in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16). A Safe Place Nearly every boy or girl has enjoyed the game of “hide and seek.” What fun it is to find a good place in which to hide, where no one can find you ! In another sense, many people are looking today for such a safe place. Many have lost their homes, and some have lost all their money, be cause the banks have failed. Others are wondering what to do with the little they have left. Oh, for a safe place—hidden and secure. God has provided just such a place—in His Son, the Lord Jesus. W e may not all have money, or lands, or homes, but we all have a very precious possession, more valuable than all the costly jewels o f the world. This precious possession is our soul. It is better far to have one’s soul in' a safe place than one’s money. In 2 Timothy 1 :12, we find this verse, “ I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” Are you able to say this verse from your hearts? If so, you need not fear what .may come throughout the year—your dear est treasure is being kept by the Lord Jesus. He is the Keeper o f souls ; He is the safe Hiding Place. Who Made Them All? Who gave the little birds their wings, Who taught them how to fly? Who filled their throats with tuneful songs To warble through the sky? Who made the sun that shines so bright, The flowers sweet and gay? The waving trees, the soft green grass That fills the meadow way? Ah, child! our Father kind and true Our cup of joy doth'fill, He made all things both great and small To work His sov’reign will. ,—S elected .
A w a y across the sea, in my country, Australia, we are very proud of the . kangaroo. This animal is native only to Australia. No doubt many of you have seen pictures o f the kangaroo, and have read many interesting stories about its habits. I well remember an experience which I had several years ago with a mother kan garoo and her baby. In Australia, there are many roads that we call “stock routes.” They are roads used for the transportation o f cattle and sheep from one part of the country to an other. One day, while I was motoring
As we came near her, the chauffeur drove slowly, and I opened the door and let the baby kangaroo jump out to join his mother. As our car sped along, I turned to look at the happy pair—mother and baby kangaroo—hopping along side by side. And they seemed to me to be very grateful for the rescue and reunion. Like the baby kangaroo, I was once lost and far from home. But the Lord Jesus, the Friend of sinners, came to my rescue. He left His home in glory and came into this world of sorrow and sin to die on the cross of Calvary. His arms o f love reached down to rescue the lost from the very jaws of death. Since the day that I re ceived Him as my Saviour, He has been bearing me on His bosom, caring for me all the way. What a place o f safety I have found in Him ! Some day, reunited with loved ones, I shall look on His face and be with Him forever. Beloved boys and girls, have you, too, been rescued by Him? His loving arms are extended toward you. “ Suffer the little children to come unto me,” He said when here on earth, and He is still wanting boys and girls to come to Him. Will you accept His loving invitation, come today, and find in Him a place of safety and rest? over one of these stock routes, I noticed, just ahead, a mother kangaroo, with her baby in her pouch. She was hopping rap idly down the road. I whispered to my chauffeur: “Give chase!” Soon we were speeding along at the rate o f about sixty miles ah hour, and yet the kangaroo kept just ahead of us. Suddenly, to our great surprise, we saw the mother kangaroo drop her baby in the center o f the road and run away, alone. Our car was directly behind, and we could not stop before we reached the baby kan garoo. Although the car passed over the little fellow, it did not touch him or injure him in any way. We stopped as soon as possible, and I jumped out quickly to rescue the baby kangaroo. But when it saw me, away it ran in the opposite direc tion from the one in which we were going. A shepherd was near, caring for his sheep. He, too, had seen what had hap pened, and he sent his sheep dog to the rescue. This dog soon brought the baby kangaroo to the feet of the shepherd. He was just about to seize the frightened little animal, when I reached down and took it. I lifted the baby kangaroo up into my arms, and there it contentedly snuggled down, hiding its head under the lapel of my coat. It must have realized that it was in the arms of a friend, and was safe. The question then arose: What should I do with the little animal, now that I had rescued it? The shepherd had no use for it. And the little creature had shown so much confidence in me that I felt I could not betray its trust. So I put it into the car, and we were soon driving along again. After traveling a distance of about five miles, we were again surprised to see the mother kangaroo, hopping along in front of our car.
