CRISIS PSYCHIATRIC CARE FOR YOUTH (SUBACUTE) Photo Tour

Welcome! We hope this photo tour will help you get a better feel for our program. Our top priority is helping you feel safe and supported during your stay with us. Our healthcare team is here for you and your family every step of the way.

About Crisis Psychiatric Care For Youth (Subacute)

Albertina Kerr’s Subacute unit offers a short-term residential program that provides a safe and secure environment for youth to stabilize from a mental health crisis.

Our team of psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, and psychiatric technicians collaborate with youth and their guardians, providing compassionate care to support stabilization.

On average, youth are discharged within 3 weeks of admission. Prior to discharge, we work with guardians and community supports to create a plan for ongoing care.

We provide a nurturing and empowering environment for youth to recover, reflect, and build skills essential to thriving.

Because every youth has unique needs, we provide comprehensive care that acknowledges and addresses those needs, promotes overall well-being, and fosters growth.

Through innovative and evidence-based practices, we aim to break down barriers, reduce stigma, and promote independence, dignity, and quality of life.

Entrance

When you arrive, ring the doorbell and we will welcome you into the lobby.

Meeting Rooms We have many meeting rooms for both therapy and visits. Here, you will have one-on-one sessions with members of your mental health team, which includes therapists and psychiatrists. This space is also where you, your family, and other people important to you can get together. If everyone can’t be here in person, you can use our meeting rooms to visit through video calls.

Our treatment program has four separate units, generally divided by age. All our units are gender inclusive. Each unit has six personal bedrooms and two separate bathrooms, plus shared common space with a table, chairs, and TV. We encourage you to decorate the unit’s walls and your bedroom with your artwork.

Units

In your unit's shared common space, you can play games, build puzzles, create artwork, listen to music, and work on projects to help you feel better. We have on-site teachers who will provide educational support.

Unit Activities

In the units, each personal bedroom has a window, a bed, and built-in shelves for your belongings. Adjustable lighting lets you change the room's mood from white to pink, red, blue, or green. You will also have a personal bin in the staff office to keep extra things like your favorite snacks.

Bedroom

At the end of each unit, a shared sink area leads into two separate bathrooms. Each bathroom has a toilet and shower. We also have lockers available to store extra towels and your toiletries.

Nursing Exam Room

Your physical health is as important as your mental health. If needed, our nurses and primary care nurse practitioners can provide medical care in our Nursing Exam Room.

We have a library down the hall from our units. It’s filled with books for all ages. You can drop in often to read or borrow a book throughout the day. You may also join a skills group or another fun activity in the library.

Library

Being active can lift your mood and improve how you feel. In our half-court gym, you can shoot hoops, play volleyball, do yoga, and more.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Getting fresh air is essential for good health. You can hang out, exercise, skateboard, use the play structure, or do artwork in our two outdoor areas. Outside areas can be used for family visits and pet visits.

Sample Weekday Schedule

Given the therapeutic benefit of daily structure and routine, we carefully design daily schedules to balance therapeutic and educational needs with free time and fun. This schedule is a sample of a typical weekday at Subacute. Our weekend schedule allows for more free time. The average length of stay at Subacute is approximately 3 weeks.
