This year, the tandem placed in the second round to pocket just shy of $1,200. It’s all part of the process for the Arizona cowgirl, who first stepped out on the rodeo trail in a big way a season ago. “Last year was my first year going hard,” Lee said. “Winning the average and a round at the National Circuit Finals in Florida pushed me to keep going. I figured I’d better try to make the finals. I ended up (27th) after losing my horse the last month because of an injury. “Here we are now. I haven’t been home in three and a half months.” Life on the rodeo trail can be rugged, especially after going more than a month without a payday. But each step is providing her a bigger scope with which to chase her rodeo dreams. “I’m really big on trusting the Lord’s plan,” she said “My traveling partner was Lori Todd, and she passed away a year and a half ago. She was always positive. I realize this is the Lord’s plan, and I’m going to spread His word while I’m at it. “I have to take advantage of those times even when it’s hard.” Her advantage came with being the first cowgirl out in a performance. By the time that Sunday had rolled around, there were plenty of fast times already on the board, and she knew even before she arrived in Estes Park that things were going her way. “I was looking forward to that rodeo since I got my call back and realized I was going to be in a performance,” Lee said. “My horse really excels in performances, and I hadn’t been in any in 30 days. There were a few things he was doing that wasn’t him. I found out what was wrong with him, and it all came together in Estes when I listened to my horse and changed it. “He’s been placing everywhere I’ve gone since then.” Tarryn Lee has found the right formula to help Ace make the race, and she’ll keep that process going through the final two months of the year to see where they end up. She’s definitely taking advantage of something special in her resilient horse.
